Midea - Duo 14,000 BTU (12,000 BTU SACC) High Efficiency Inverter (MAP14HS1TBL)

I got this same unit for the same price, but mine has this constant rattle sound. Does anyone have any experience with this and have a way to fix it? I'd rather not return it because frankly it was a huge pain in the ass to get home.

Check Slickdeals, I recently bought a refurbished 12000BTU Midea for $200. I live in California, currently 95F, and for an uninsulated garage of that size, you'd want at least a 12000BTU Midea if not the 14000BTU. There's currently a 18500BTU mini split on sale for $550 that be optimal.

I bought three of this refurbished Midea Duo for $200 when it was on sale. Sometimes you actually get a brand new sealed unit, and other times you get one that's obviously been used. Only one time did I have to return one that was used so that I could buy again and get a new one. They are very powerful, can blow extremely cold, and the best part is the huge amount of air it can move and circulate. I haven't powered on any fans since buying them. I have an office/bedroom that I built within an uninsulated garage, so the garage usually gets much hotter than outside the house, but the Midea Duo can easily make the room ice cold if I wanted too. I rather have an overkill powerful unit that I can adjust, than have one that struggles to cool past a certain temperature. It has an inverter an a number of smart features and automations, to where it does save energy compared to my old and much weaker 6000BTU window AC. Mentioning pets, I do have two cats in my room at all times. What I like about the Midea Duo is that I can control and monitor the AC with the SmartHome app. The included window panel had enough room for me to also drill a hole for the cat litter exhaust vent hose and a tiny hole for the condensate pump water drainage hose.

Got the same one from costco and makes gaming in my upstairs office cool during the hottest days of summer! And no water drain!!!

Get a 2 hose portable or a Midea with it's 2 in 1 hose system. 1 hose models are sold in America 'because installing 2 hoses is too hard for that market to figure out'. They are the single dumbest invention in the history of inventions, blowing out the very air you are trying to cool. Buy an inverter model, and just spend the money on the Midea.

We have the big Midea portable oval hose heat pump and love it. But we live in a moist climate so we installed it on a box and put a condensate pump inside the box. It heats down to -5C so we subsidize an old furnace. It will be replaced by a mini-split next year.

I just bought one ironically. I have a 3-car garage that faces the afternoon sun. Bought a 12000BTU AC from Costco and it can’t really keep up, but does a good enough job bringing it down to around 82f. The problem is that it’s drawing 14A and I have only one circuit to my garage so bigger is not an option without doing some electrical work

You're very welcome, and I don't mind at all. We've got 2 of the Midea duo, model MAP14, 14000 btu units.( The actual working btu, called SACC btu are 12000) they are dual hose units, but use a hose in hose design, so not as clunky as 2 separate hoses. Also they have inverter compressors, so they can slow the compressor down to save energy when just maintaining temperature, instead of just off and on like regular compressors, it makes for less temperature swings between cycles as well. The important thing is, whatever brand you choose, it needs to be dual hose. The single hose models we've tried in the past caused so much negative pressure in the house that the humidity went sky high, along with the electric bill, and they didn't cool very well. (Most single hose units the SACC btu are around half of the listed regular btu, due to all the losses from negative pressure). The 2 duo models cool our entire 1000 square foot house, and are pretty energy efficient, better than some of the cheaper window units (some, not all, it is possible to get window units with higher efficiency). Dual hose with an inverter compressor is the best you can do for performance and efficiency, short of getting an inverter window unit. I beleive you can get the same model from Midea branded by Toshiba, and one of the Whynter models, just look for the big oval hose in hose exhaust, instead of the 2 small round hoses. There are a couple versions, some with heat pump feature. We didn't get the version with heat, as our house has electric heat and wood heat already, and the heat pump feature only works down to 40 degrees, so we didn't consider it useful enough for the extra price. Also, possibly not useful information, but we are happier with our portables than the window units they replaced. We went to window units after being dissapointed with single hose portables, and were never quite happy with them. Too much trouble to take in and out of the windows, heavy to lift and carry, have to get the tilt right or they leak, crummy accordion side panels that let in bugs and drafts unless you tape over them, the outside part gets full of dirt and crud over time, and they sometimes get mold or mildew in them, especially if the back has got dirty and hasn't been hosed out. All around total pain. Much easier to wheel a portable out of the closet and have it set up in 5 minutes, then at the end of the summer have it removed in 5 minutes, drain the unit from the rear plug, and wheel it back to the closet.

Dual or concentric hose models are the best bet. Inverter is good for noise. I have a midea inverter, with concentric hose that is great

You’re not doing anything wrong..portable ACs are mold traps by design. Sitting all winter with leftover moisture = fungus party. Run it on fan mode before storage to dry it out. As for brands, try Whynter or Midea dual-hose. They’re slightly easier to clean. Or go mini split and never look back.
