Hisense - HAP0824TWD

I have it to cool about a 350 sq ft space, in high humidity environment-using it about 2 months on 77 degrees farenheight at lowest (outside temps 90-100 degrees). It is a room I do not really use now, but want to keep cool; because room radiates alot of heat through large glass doors. I never use it on dehumidify, because I do not want to hassel with draining it (not had to on a/c mode-also read heat pump mode could require more draining - so I got a/c only model ) I also cut out insulation board to reinforce plastic window hose mount, matching size of needed plastic window hose mount; taped together with aluminum tape. It is only 8k btu so probably won't cool very large space, depending on insulation, and ambient temps. Also, must insulate hot side exhaust hose for better efficiency (get flexible cover on Amazon ; not the stiff ones); or wrap with some type of insulation. This is inverter model, so I do not know how much it will vibrate, when compressor revs down to save energy-may need to place on mat to subdue vibration-especially on bare floors. One thing about the in window placed single inverter units (talkin about different models that actually place inside open window) that I did not know about was the vibration caused by the compressor reving down, and causing low frequency vibration-travels through widow and even walls. In this respect, this portable A/C is probably better, because much easier to stop vibration, by simply placing portable unit on a thick mat.

(It's renewed, but mine came looking like it was new.) I think it's pretty energy efficient for an A/C and it really cools down the room. And it gets chilly (and pretty quiet). When looking for portable A/C's, look for the ones with dual exhuast hoses. Those are much better at cooling down rooms and being efficient compared to the ones with only one. The one I linked has two hoses and it has been great.

Just chiming in on portable ACs - picked up a Hisense dual hose from Costco last summer for our 10x12 room. Works great for nighttime (9pm to 6am) use and it’s not too loud. Only saw about a $1/day bump on the PG&E bill. Night and day difference compared to our window unit (other room) that’s loud AF and makes our electric bill cry. Lol

Been using the Hisense portable inverter ac from Costco and its super quiet and keeps our office perfect temp. It gets direct sun from about 1pm till dusk so the ac is a lifesaver. The dual hose design keeps the suction effect down and the quiet mode is almost dead silent, air purifier is louder.

I bought a hisense dual hose from costco. It may not be as efficient as a window unit but so easy to install and overall does a great job

Costco has a Hisense 8k dual hose unit with inverter. I just bought one so I don't have a long term review of it yet but it's worked well in the minimal testing I've done.

Depends on your definition of portable. I picked up an 8000BTU portable room unit from Costco and recently tested it. 2 hoses, inverter compressor. In direct TN sun, 82 degrees outside temp, inside in the mid 90s, it was able after an hour to get interior temp to 81 degrees with all windows covers in place and decent insulation (2 layers thinsulate). After a few hours, in direct sun the interior temp was 79 (thermostat set at 74). So it works hard handling direct sun. But I bought it for drying out and cooling the van for sleeping at night, and there it does fine. At 4pm the interior was at 76 degrees, and it got to set temp a little later. It runs between 860-1100 watts, so definitely will need shore power when in use. I haven't tried isolating a smaller space in my van (heavy curtains), but I'm sure it would do better if I used it to cool just the sleeping area. I note that it is important to wrap the exhaust hose in an insulating sleeve, as it gets HOT. I paid $349 for the AC, it is on sale at Costco right now through June 15 for $279. I've seen that the new DC roof AC units have pretty low power draw and no inverter overhead, but I mostly chase 70 degrees, and I don't want to give up roof space. I'll bring along the portable AC unit when it's going to be warmer, I have shore power, and I want to cool off van at night for sleeping.

Have both of these... The 8k Hisense has a quiet mode that slows down the fan. If your room is borderline too big for 8k it may not be able to keep temp in this mode but it is genuinely quiet. The 12k Midea does not have this mode. In addition, when the inverter kicks on it really is quite the kick. It's also a bit bassy while it's spooling up. If you are a light sleeper it will wake you up.

So, I have one of these cooling a small room I stay in a couple weeks a month out in Arkansas. It worked relatively well for the first year. This year has been a different story. First it wasn't cooling as effectively as last year. I check the filter on the back regularly but that wasn't the issue. It's the heat exchanger down inside the machine that the outside air is drawn through in order to cool the air inside. There is no filter for the incoming air. It just goes down the tube and right through the exchanger. The only way to properly clean it is to disassemble the entire machine. This leads to my second problem. The blower fan is impossible to clean unless you open the entire machine up and do some major surgery. Mine had mold and other fun looking bits on it from the humid air out in Arkansas. I had to take the entire shell off, remove a good amount of the ducting, and disassemble the fans motor attachment to be able to clean it. It would be easier to clean the blower if the screen was removable that protects it but you cant remove the screen without once again disassembling the entire machine. Sorry. Long rant. I like mine for the most part but the lack of accessibility to clean parts that should be user cleanable makes me angry.
