REI Co-op - Base Camp 6

We have an REI Basecamp 6 and two Kingdom cots. Just enough space for two glampers, and oh, such a good night's sleep.

Came here to say MSR. I've had the Mutha Hubba for about 15 years, so also can't speak to current quality but I haven't heard of any issues. I also have a larger 6 person REI brand tent that seems to be very high quality at a better price point. They use the same style aluminum poles as MSR. The main thing that made me choose MSR originally was that you can't even purchase their poles. If you somehow managed to break one, they will always replace them for free. Aftermarket parts don't exist because they'll just send you one.

I can 2nd the REI base camp. The quality vs price is very hard to beat. We have our older model (don’t remember which exactly ) away and I’ve missed it.

Love our Rei base camp 6. Currently using it for a week at scout camp where it’s been heavy rain for at least an hour every day/night. I’m dry and bug free and happy. We’ve had it for 10 years. I’ve seam sealed maybe twice in that time. Originally purchased to fit two packnplay’s and a queen air mattress when our twins were babies. The twins are taking up more space but the 4 of of are still comfy and have plenty of room.

Yes! I have the hubba and the hubba hubba.  Both on their second fly (just due to wear not failure) and I did have them send me a couple poles noting taking it in the snow wasn't the best idea.  Still worked though! I forgot we also have the REI 6 person - the basecamp.  It's been great for car camping.

For me, it was between REI Base Camp 6 and Eureka Space Camp. The Eureka had more room but the REI was more bomb proof. And I really liked the ability to close up the REI tent for cooler weather. We are not the type of family to let bad weather spoil our trip. I'm not familiar with snow peak tents but I would guess this comes down to personal preference depending on your intended use. Just buy them both, open them up in an dry and clean space, check out their features, then return the one that better suits you. Edit: Upon further review, the alpha breeze and Eureka Space Camp are wildly different sizes, making comparisons difficult.

The BC6 is amazing… it is super durable and easy to set up. At 5’4” you might struggle a little at first with set up, especially in the wind, but once you do it a bunch of times… it is easy to do. (poles are all color coordinated and chorded together. I use it beach camping so it stands up to the wind… and has plenty of mesh to be breezy on those hot days. Given the sale… I would recommend. I really miss the kingdome 6 and 8… it had a built in screen porch side that gave you the choice to have a tent and screen porch all in one. A true glamping tent! If you get it, post photos!

Six person tent, not 4. When we went to REI to buy our first family tent, the salesperson looked at as and leaned over and said “just my WIFE and I use a four person tent. You want the six”. REI Basecamp 6 is great. Full rain fly with two vestibules, but still fast and easy to put up.

Big Tent Pros: Lots of space, can stand up inside, comfy! Big Tent Cons: More difficult to set up alone. Takes up more space in your vehicle. Needs a larger flat area to set up. I camp solo and got tired of squeezing into my little 2 man tent and having to do complicated yoga just to change clothes. I ended up getting REI's Basecamp 6 person tent and I LOVE it. It takes a little longer to set up and is a little more difficult to do by yourself (especially if you're short like me), but I love having lots of space for me and the dog and my stuff. For car camping where weight isn't important, I just go all out. That said, if I'm car camping in an area where I know flat, open space at the site will be limited, I'll pack my small tent instead. Most of my camping is dispersed desert camping, though, and I usually don't have any trouble finding space.
