Noise is an important aspect to consider. A noisy filter will likely never be on. It's not just about sound level. It's about how annoying/soothing the sound your filter produces is. On this aspect I l like Coway's airmega 150 and 240. It's also easy to find replacement filters for these models.

I got a Coway Airmega because it was highly reviewed on the Wirecutter website after my previous Levoit broke after only a couple years and wasn’t fixable (circuit board inside was fried).

I bought two air purifiers just last week after reading this sub! Coway 150 and ap-1512HH(W), they were on sale on Amazon.ca and I read somewhere I can use the carbon pellet filter from the AP-1512HHS in the non S version. So far so good!

Hey The Coway Airmega 150 is a solid unit, but it only has a CADR of 234 m³/h. For a 4.8 ACH, it's perfect for your room, but only if you run it at full speed. If you want to target a lower ACH, go for it, since most probably you won't run it on max speed. What I generally recommend is buying something way more powerful than what you need. Here's why: Purifiers with higher CADR than what you need mean you can run them on lower speeds to achieve the same CADR of a smaller one. This results in less noise, less mechanical stress on the purifier, and a longer life of the fans and longer filter lifespan. (The filter lifespan of ~1 year is calculated in a room suitable for the purifier. If you get a bigger purifier for a smaller room and run it on low speeds aka night mode or speed 1 instead of a normal usage you'll get more life out of the filter as well which translates to less frequent filter changes so $$ saved as well in the longer run) As per what I recommend, I would say go for at least a 350-400 m³/h CADR unit that provides a good noise level (look at both sleep mode and turbo noise) and power consumption. I am personally using a Philips PureProtect 3200 in my room (same room size as yours), but only because I caught it on sale for $206 usd. Since it has a whopping CADR of 520 m³/h my purifier is never leaving the sleep mode setting, and I can barely hear it. And for that CADR it is quieter on both sleep mode (15 dB vs 20 dB) and turbo ( 47.5 dB vs 48.3 dB) than an Airmega 150 while outputting 2.22x the performance of the Coway unit. Plus app support and temperature + humidity sensors if you like the extra stuff. This is the type of deal you want to be looking for. See what's up for sale in your country.

We have two Coway Airmega units, one on either side of the house. They have been on 24/7 for several years now. Maintenance and cleaning are very minimal. Cost is about $150-200, although there are larger units based on how big of an area you need to filter. We are very happy with them! Whichever purifier you choose, I highly recommend you look into one with a replaceable HEPA filter. Other filtration methods just won’t give the same results.

Agreed! And they now offer different filters depending on what is most important to you to filter: one for smoke, one for allergens, etc.

firstly-whatever you want a 'purifier' to filter out has to be able to get to, into and through the device. i've yet to see a consumer level air filter that's strong enough to stir dog hair/dander up off the floor. for dust ? they all suck. i'm in colorado, very dusty area. they all suck. any good filter will clog quickly by definition. remember that ;) having said that, i use a coway 'airmega' in my bedroom and i'm fairly pleased w/ it. has a carbon pad for odors, filters out some dust, smoke, etc. they will all have yearly filter costs-generally anywhere from 50-200 bux/yr., mebbe ? none of them that i've seen are anything to sneeze at. ;-p
