For simplicity, if you only need to record for a couple hours. I tend to recommend something like a GoPro Hero / DJI Osmo Action / Insta360 Ace Pro. If you need to go over a couple hours consider adding a USB power bank. If you need to go for multiple days, there are dedicated construction Timelapse cameras like Brinno. Small, weather proof, can take it a little rough, and they tend to have lots of different mounting attachment options. There are some decent spring-clamp options.

I mean you can't really compare the two. The Sony will absolutley beat any action cam. However, the new DJI Action cam do have a bigger sensor vs the newest GoPro. Both of which are micro sized vs the APS-C sensor in the Sony. Action cams work better when you have video lights vs relying on natural lighting. They work great for caves when you can really lighten the whole place up.

We use GoPros at work for in car spiels, and we have found the latest ones annoyingly buggy. Sometimes (not often) shutting down randomly and sometimes not saving a video and throwing up an error. It also tends to overheat when mounted on the windshield since we live in a hot country (happens often). Image quality is great, to be fair, but we shifted to osmo actions because of the more reliable software, more reliable heat dissipation and longer battery life. Transfer by files is also easier on the DJI with a better iPhone app. Overall, go pro has really good video quality, but the few times it failed, they were mission critical shots, and we just can’t afford to have that gap in our workflow.

Dji has 1 inch sensor. Superior to other two - that’s why the quality is always better even in low light

For me, it is only the form factor. The slow motion and stability is just as good with DJI so my next camera will be a Osmo instead of Gopro.

I was hoping to finally see dive footage of the new 6. Im still using Osmo 1. Looks amazing. Very high detail. I like it better than the trendy 360s. I'm thinking about getting it

Your phone is often the best, it's just a psychological barrier to take it out and film without doing other stuff on it. You could always go for a gopro, osmo action or insta360 x5, all the latest ones have great features. The 360 cam is especially nice if you want to hit record and go, and spend a little more time in the editing to make the shots. Gopro or osmo action are just simple quick video devices. But if you want to take your time filming stuff everywhere you might like the sony zv e10 mark ii.

Ive had both. I'd lean slightly to the osmo. The big diffrence is down to gps imo. The osmo doesn't have it built in. You need the remote for it. The gopro does. Otherwise they're both fine. Overheating isn't an issue when driving.

Yeah, then they're both good camera's. I use the 13 currently as i need the GPS, but if the next osmo has gps built in again I might switch back. No real wrong choice there.

I’m a gear head, I own a ton of camera equipment. You don’t need the latest to document you trips. I’m still using an older GoPro hero 9 and it takes fantastic 4k 60FPS video. Look into the older generations. The processing power jumped between the 9 and 10th generation GoPro. Recommendation **If you can find a GoPro hero 10 that would be the best value.** The hero12 didn’t have gps, so I’d avoid that generation if that feature is important to you. *Go pro alternatives:* I own a insta360 go3s. It’s great for POV, ultra small. I clip it to my hat. Max resolution is 4k 30FPS. If you’re going to do fast paced activities like racing you may find the framerate at the max resolution to be too slow. Insta360 X5 is a 360 camera. Theres a learning curve to the software. But provides the ability to reframe footage. Quality of the video will not be as good as a standard action camera. DJI osmo action, it’s a solid choice as well. Bit rate is lower then a GoPro, but if you’re not a professional you won’t know the difference
